ALICE HONEYBELL BEAR

One of a kind, Alice Honeybell, a 15” white mohair bear, lives in Broadmeadow retirement community. She’s jointed and wired, which gives her a great Range of Motion just like my mother, after whom she is fashioned. Like my Mother, she can stand on her own but prefers her rattan chair or a doll stand since at her age, balance isn’t her best suit.  Honey Grandma (as she is called by her grandchildren) has a plucked and airbrushed face with hand painted blue eyes in leather lids and a pink embroidered nose and mouth. Her feet and paws are made of wool felt. Though retired, she’s still a fashion plate and is sometimes known as the Jackie Onasis of Broadmeadow. Her lace trimmed, drop waist, blue silk dress with green and pink trim matches her taffeta blue hat and purse perfectly. Even her white patten leather shoes are laced with matching green silk ribbon. Alice carries her keys and other sundries in her drawstring purse and always has her glasses handy. Her knitting basket is filled with yarn for her upcoming prayer shawl. But Alice is no longer a “Human Doing” but an awe filled Human Being often stopping her chores to have a sip of tea while watching the clouds, listening to the birds or admiring the posies in her garden. Notice that her age seems to waver between 5 years and 80. At times she’s the wise elder and at other times she can barely pay attention to anything but the wonder of the natural world around her. Whatever age she seems to be, know that she will be dressed perfectly for the occasion.

I dedicate this bear to my Mother and inspiration, Alice Wimberley.

Thanks Mom, for all the love, support, and encouragement through the years.
